I started shooting Tairawhiti Girls in early 2008 and then did a second group in late 2009. This will probably be my life's work.
These images are of women from my home town of Gisborne. I have known them for many many years and they were all over 45 when the photos were taken. My touch stone for this project is 'honouring'. I want the final image to be a statement about how each woman sees herself at this stage of her life. I am interested in experimenting with different locations, environments, costumes and looks to create a picture that is true to each woman but not your everyday portrait.
