Photospace Gallery, Wellington - 2006
In 2003 I drove across America on my own. I started in Las Vegas and finished up in New York. The trip took 3 weeks and I camped the whole way staying in state and national parks. I took secondary roads most of the time and avoided cities as much as possible.
Before I left I saw a Peter Black exhibition at the City Art Gallery and was fascinated by the shoot-from-the-hip images that Peter is so well known for. I was still using film at this time, so as I drove through middle America I quietly took photos without anyone really noticing. I had no idea what I had shot until I got home. James Gilberd from Photospace, invited me to join this group show and these are the 10 images we selected.
